Birds Of Tokyo, Washington, Sia And More Top ARIA Noms

Tue, 28 Sep 2010 17:20:20 +1000

In a wide-open field, Sia, Angus & Julia Stone, Guy Sebastian, Birds Of Tokyo and Washington each receive six ARIA nominations.

Tame Impala, The Temper Trap and John Butler Trio both earned five nominations.

Powderfinger and Dan Sultan have earned four nominations each.

And three nominations have been dished out to Cloud Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Kylie Minogue, Clare Bowditch, Art VS Science, Empire Of The Sun, Jimmy Barnes, Kate Miller-Heidke, Stan Walker, Yolanda Be Cool & DCup and Vanessa Amorosi.

If this sounds like a massive amount of nominations doled out, it goes even further, testament to the seemingly inexhaustible list of categories.

This year ARIA have added another couple of categories: the long-awaited Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album and the curious Best Adult Alternative Album.

The Breakthrough Single and Album categories have been merged into Breakthrough Artist.

In addition to this, the 2010 ARIA Awards are listening to the fans, including four new categories voted on by the public: Most Popular Australian Single, Most Popular Australian Album, Most Popular Australian Artist, and Most Popular International Artist.

Voting begins on October 14 on the ARIA Awards website.

The ARIA Artisan Awards have already been chosen. Kris Moyes won Best Video for Sia’s ‘Clap Your Hands’ clip, Wayne Connolly won Best Engineer for Paul Dempsey’s ‘Fast Friends’, Angus & Julia Stone won Best Producer and Best Cover Art

The ARIA Awards will be telecast on Ten on Sunday November 7.
