Ubiquitous Aussie hip-hop producer M-Phazes has delivered beats for Talib Kweli’s forthcoming album.
M-Phazes has long been renowned as Australia’s premier hip-hop producer. He’s worked with almost everyone in the business, from TZU to Bliss N Eso to Drapht to Muph and Plutonic to Phrase.
He’s also supplied beats to US underground acts Funkghost, Supastition, Sha Stimuli, Ken Starr, Pharoahe Monch and even Def Jam star chanteuse Amerie.
And, of course, this year his compadres paid back the favour by appearing on his own debut album Good Gracious, which debuted at number one on the AIR charts a couple of months back.
He’s just come off the tour for the album, and now cult US hip-hop star Talib Kweli has dropped his name on a tweet about his new album.
Talib tweeted: “Putting the finishing touches on my new album Gutter Rainbows, available sooner than you think (MPhazes, EJones, S1, HiTek, SkiBeatz etc..)”
We appreciate the grammatically-correct tweets, Talib.
Kweli’s breakthrough was the iconic Black Star collaboration with Mos Def, has rhymed with Kanye West, Common, ?uestlove, and appeared on the Chappelle Show.
He’s also appeared on two albums already this year: a remix called Dub Kweli and with HiTek as part of the group Reflections Eternal.
We don’t know what “sooner than you think” means when it comes to Gutter Rainbows, but we’ll keep you posted.
