Astonishing news for Australian heavy music fans as Slayer announce their first tour in five years, and bring out Mastodon.
In 2006 the most metal band on the planet, California thrash kings Slayer, released the critically worshipped comeback album, Christ Illusion. It was the first with the original "classic era" line-up of Tom Araya, Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo that recorded the quintessential Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss between 1986 and 1990. While not as unremittingly brutal as those albums, Christ Illusion is a punishing return to form. These thrash metal icons return to Australia to claim their crown as the most uncompromisingly evil metal band that ever banged a head. Supremely confident, Slayer have added to the bill one of the most revered up-and-coming heavy acts - Atlanta's Mastodon. Their 2006 Blood Mountain epic found its way into many mainstream Best Ofs for the year and peaked at number 32 on the Billboard charts.
