Brian McFadden is a breakthrough Australian artist according to ARIA (The Australian Record Industry Association).
Irish popstar Brian McFadden is a nominee in the Breakthrough Australian Artist category for the upcoming ARIA Awards.McFadden was a founding member of Irish boyband Westlife who reached supergroup status in the UK when their first seven singles went to number one in England.
McFadden departed Westlife in 2004 and has released four solo albums, the most recent being 'Wall of Soundz'.
So the big question is how does someone who has solo tens of millions of records worldwide and has had four solo albums under his belt, who comes from Ireland but now lives in Sydney, suddenly qualify to be Australian or Breakthrough?
I would imagine the nomination is as embarrassing for Brian as it is to the rest of industry. McFadden is a brilliant pop star. He is a leader in his field and has an unquestionable hit rate when it comes to success. But Brian McFadden having an Australian girlfriend and living with her in Sydney does not qualify him as an Aussie artist.
