Joaquin Phoenix’s volatile rap career has been documented and the trailer revealed.
The erstwhile film star made the curious career move in 2008 to become a rap star.He grew his beard out, acted crazy on The Late Show With David Letterman, rapped, and got his brother-in-law Casey Affleck to document the whole thing.
Is it a hoax? No one knows. He certainly has performed rap songs on stage, debuting in January last year.
He said to People magazine, "Are there people out there who think I'm a joke? I'm sure there will be. Are there people who think it's going to suck? Probably, but I can't worry about that."
Yet Rolling Stone reported that he said, "It's a put-on. I'm going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it."
Regardless, the I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix doco should be a fascinating artifact.
The film is due out in selected theatres on September 10 and, according to the LA Times, reportedly features "more male frontal nudity than you'd find in some gay porn films".
