Consider 2010 the planning year for the next round of Cold Chisel activity. Don Walker says there are definite plans for a new album.
"We've talked about doing some more recording," Don tells Undercover News. "We did a bit of exploratory new recording at the beginning of March. We went into a studio for some days and had a muck around with some songs. Some of those were quite good. Everybody's busy. Jim is busy for the rest of the year on a solo album, Ian's busy with other things. I don't know when we will get to it. We might do a little bit of recording later in the year".The last Cold Chisel album was 'The Last Wave of Summer' in 1998. That came 14 years after 'Twentieth Century' but Don says it is looking good. "There were a couple of things that were quite promising from what we did in March," he says. "The longer-term aim is that I sat down with everybody and said I'd like to write a set of songs for a new Cold Chisel album. That is what I will be doing in my spare time this year."
The sessions earlier this year set a template for the record although it is a long way off being finished. "We didn't get time to do more than a dozen songs," he says. "There is a lot that I have written that the other guys haven't seen and while I might think there might be something suitable for Cold Chisel you can never tell that until the other guys hear it".
He says he doesn't write with Cold Chisel in mind. "I just write and when a project comes along I look at what is sitting over there on the bench and think "they might like this one or that might like that one".
Meanwhile, fans of Don Walker should check out the reissue of his Catflish albums. 'Ruby' and 'Unlimited Address' have been remastered, remixed and with new artwork and are both now back in stores.
