American Idol winner Adam Lambert says that stories that he was going to be the lead singer of Queen were a media beat-up.
The stories started after Queen's Brain May and Roger Taylor performed with Adam on American Idol. Adam says he was never offered the role of lead singer for Queen. "I think that was a media rumour," he tells Undercover News. "Basically they said "we'd love to work with you again some day and have a talk about maybe a collaboration". The words "would you be our new lead singer" never came out".He says performing with Queen was an amazing experience. "It was surreal," he said. "I could not believe I was up there with Brian May and Roger Taylor. It was bizarre. It was like a dream".
Adam sites Freddie Mercury as one of his greatest influences. "A lot of the artists I have been drawn to are the people who really give you a lot of visual presentation along with their music and they put a lot of performance into their work".
Not surprising, Adam's first real job in music was in the theatre. "It is very similar. It is the same school of thought," he says. "Right before Idol I was in 'Wicked'. I was living in Los Angeles as a working actor which is not easy to say because there are not a lot of theatre gigs there that run for a long time. It was very rewarding".
Adam Lambert will tour Australia in October. Dates are:
October 19, Melbourne, Palace Theatre
October 20, Sydney, The Metro
October 22, Brisbane, The Tivoli
