The Australian premiere of Hairspray The Musical is just weeks away. Undercover was at the rehearsal with Director David Atkins and Choreographer Jason Coleman while the cast practiced for their premiere performance.
David Atkins has been working on the show for the last year. "We have been working on reimaging how the show would be in a unique Australian version of it," he tells Undercover News.David put a lot of research into directing the show. "I saw the London version of it. I've seen various versions of it and then watched the original film, the John Waters film, the musical … so lots of preparation".
Choreographer "I've done 14 versions of 12 Broadway shows in this country but I feel this is like my first big show. I think it is because the score is so incredible, the book is so amazing and the story, unfortunately, is still relevant today".
Hairspray The Musical will begin at the Princess Theatre, Melbourne with preview performances from September 23 and the season commencing on October 3rd.
