Wyclef Jean has gone into hiding in Haiti while awaiting news on whether he can run for president.
The former Fugees member, solo artist, and now Haitian presidential candidate Wyclef Jean has told Associated Press that he has been subject to death threats.Jean is currently awaiting news from the Haitian electoral commission, who will decide whether his 2007 appointment as a roving ambassador is enough to satisfy the residency requirements to run for president.
The singer is currently hiding out in an undisclosed location until the ruling is made.
Wyclef and more than 30 other people have applied to be in the running for the Haitian Presidency.
The beleaguered Caribbean nation will hold an election this November.
Wyclef Jean's former bandmate Pras Michel also has ties to Haiti, but has offered his endorsement to another musical candidate Michel Martelly, a composer, performer and social activist.
Pras has been tweeting feverishly about the election, revealing that he has also been subject to veiled threats.
He tweeted six hours ago: "i got a call from an unidentify person in haiti telling me to chill or else,& they disclose my exact location and meal i just order .wow!!!"
