Hip hop icons Public Enemy will be performing their landmark Fear Of A Black Planet album in full during their Australian dates.

It's the biggest trend in music today – performing albums from start to finish live.

Pioneered by the All Tomorrow's Parties festivals, and now adopted by everyone from Bruce Springsteen To Phoenix, the trend reaches its apogee this summer.

Public Enemy have been announced for the New Year's Falls Festivals in Victoria and Tasmania, as well as Brisbane's Sunset Sounds on January 5 and 6.

They'll perform their masterpiece Fear Of A Black Planet in full during their appearances, including the incendiary hits 'Welcome To The Terrordome', 'Don't Believe The Hype', '911 Is A Joke' and 'Fight The Power'.

It's the twentieth anniversary of the album, which is recognised as one of hip hop's greatest and most important albums.

It featured in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time list, Pitchfork's Best Albums Of The '90s list, and in the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die compendium and in 2004 was included in the US Library Of Congress' National Recording Registry.

The full performance is sure to be the most memorable moment of summer's festival season.

Pity Ice Cube is visiting two months early; he could reprise his verse on 'Burn Hollywood Burn'.
