We caught up with hip-hop’s prophets of rage at the Falls Festival and Flav had some kind words for the Stone siblings.
The hip-hop icons were touring through Australia, playing mostly songs from their classic 1989 album Fear Of A Black Planet.
At the Marion Bay, Tasmania leg of the Falls Festival Chuck D muses to Damien Loverso about the intent of that album.
“It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back was our national statement and Fear Of A Black Planet was our international statement,” Chuck says, “The world is a world of colour and race was concocted by structures and governments to separate people, divide people, conquer people.”
Then the infamous hype man Flavor Flav drops in to drag Chuck D up on stage, singling out the act before them, Angus & Julia Stone, for praise, adding that they “was dope”.
Check out the lightning quick but still illuminating interview with living rap legend Chuck D, plus the brief, hilarious appearance by Flav, below.
