Reese Witherspoon has signed up for a Nora Ephron-penned biopic of the legendary singer Peggy Lee.
Peggy Lee's amazing story has attempted to be told many times, but with high wattage players like Witherspoon and Ephron, this one might stick.Witherspoon will star and produce and "longtime" Peggy Lee fan Ephron is set to write and direct.
They secured the rights to Lee's story from her estate, after meeting up with her granddaughter Holly Foster-Wells.
Peggy Lee was a pop and jazz singing sensation for almost seven decades, who also wrote music for films, acted, and created pioneering concept records combining jazz, art and poetry.
Witherspoon has form playing historical music figures following her Oscar-winning turn as June Carter Cash in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line, where she sang all the vocals for the role .
Ephron is best known for writing and directing romantic comedies Sleepless In Seattle and When Harry Met Sally. Her most recent film was the semi-biographical film about chef Julia Child and blogger Julie Powell - Julie and Julia.
