Alt-rock freak Beck has been logging time with superstar buddies but says a new album could be out in months.
Beck spoke to Pitchfork recently about his work on the Scott Pigrim soundtrack as well as his year of collaborations.Beck hit the studio with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Stephen Malkmus for extended periods, and recorded a song for the Twilight soundtrack with Bat For Lashes.
For his Record Club project, where he covered entire albums with fellow rock stars, he brought in Nigel Godrich, Devendra Banhart, MGMT, Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother, Jamie Lidell, Liars, Wilco and Feist.
He even covered Yanni Live At The Acropolis with post rockers Tortoise and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth doing a single take of improvised vocals.
He said of the mad collaborations: "I've done so many albums where I've been in the studio for 14 hours a day for six months just trying to come up with things on my own. It's a nice change helping other people with their music and not being all about what I'm trying to do myself."
But the 'Loser' icon actually has another solo album almost ready to go.
It won't be along the lines of his last, more garage-rock album Modern Guilt.
"There was a whole group of songs that I was working on before Modern Guilt that I never got around to releasing," he said, "so it's more in that vein."
It will hopefully be finished by the end of summer, and Beck suggested it might be released on 12-inch records or even on his website.
