Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams will portray legendary singer Janis Joplin in a forthcoming biopic.
The film is set to be called Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can and will be directed by Fernando Mierelles who is best known for City Of God.It will be produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, who worked on the Twilight series of films and should go into production next year.
Joplin's story has been attempted before. Two films have been in the works, one titled The Gospel According To Janis and another titled Piece of My Heart, but both have been stalled.
Actresses who have been approached to play the firebrand Big Brother And The Holding Company vocalist in those films included Renee Zellweger, Lili Taylor and Zooey Deschanel.
Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can was written by musician-turned-screenwriter Ron Terry, and while a studio hasn't been settled on, the script has been owned by Fox Searchlight.
