The Blues Brothers really are soul men according to the Catholic Church. The 30-year old John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd classic film has been given official approval by The Vatican.
In the movie, Jake and Elwood Blues (Belushi and Ackroyd) were "on a mission from God" to save the Catholic orphanage where they grew up from closure. That mission leads them back to their old school where they reunited with "the penguin", Sister Mary Stigmata (Kathleen Freeman).Dan Ackroyd is ecstatic with the Vatican nod. "I was delighted with the endorsement. My local monsignor will immediately be receiving a check for parish needs," he said in a statement.
The Blues Brothers is now considered a "Catholic Classic" by the Catholic church. Other must-see movies the Catholic Church recommends you should see at least once before you go to heaven, hell or purgatory are The Ten Commandments and The Passion of the Christ".
One movie the Catholic Church does not recommend is 'The Life of Brian'. Obviously the appreciate American humour over British humour.
