U2 bass player Adam Clayton has made a sole move within the band to commence legal action against the band`s financial controller.
Clayton is suing Gaby Smyth who has controlled the U2 money for years.Clayton filed the papers in the Dublin High Court accusing Smyth of negligence.
Smyth was behind U2's controversial decision to move their publishing company to Holland to avoid Ireland's high tax. That decision lead to criticism of Bono who at the same time was mounting an ant-poverty campaign in his homeland.
The legal action is Clayton's second in just six months. He also recently sued his housekeeper Carol Hawkins after discovering she had spent 1.8 million Euros of his money and an apartment and racehorses.
Clayton's solo action without the other three members of U2 represents the first public rift for the band.
Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen Jr, Paul Hewson (Bono) and David Evans (The Edge) formed U2 when they were teenagers at Mount Temple secondary school. The band has never had a line-up change.
