There is a real race for the biggest selling Australian album of the year already with the race to close to call at this moment.
As we reach the halfway mark for the year, Angus and Julia Stone 'Down The Way' are a nose in front of John Butler Trio 'April Uprising' in sales but they have also had a two week headstart on the Butler record.Angus and Julia Stone have had 12 weeks on the chart compared to Butler's 10 but AC/DC 'Iron Man 2' soundtrack has only been around for 6 weeks and culd beat both. If we look at the first 6 weeks sales for all three albums, then AC/DC 'Iron Man ' has sold more in that time that both Butler and the Stones.
We also have two wild cards to throw into this race. Powderfinger 'Golden Rule' has sold almost more than the three leaders but was released late last year so the first few weeks of sales will not be included in the 2010 figures. However, a farewell tour later this year is going to resurrect sales for 'Golden Rule' and that could put it back in front.
The other wildcard is Crowded House 'Intriguer'. The album will be available in stores tomorrow. While Crowded House's last album 'Time On Earth' went by unnoticed, 'Intriguer' is actually a very good album, dare I say, one of the best things they have ever done and could easily spend the next six months in the chart.
