The reissue of the classic 1978 Rolling Stones album `Exile On Main Street` continues to be an outstanding success with a no. 2 debut in the USA this week.
Earlier this week, ‘Exile On Main Street’ came in at number one in the UK and no.6 in Australia after heavy campaigning in the United States from Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts. The interest in the album was no so such the original songs but the 10-track bonus disc featuring unreleased material started during the ‘Exile On Main Street’ sessions.
The new lyrics may lack the authenticity of the songs recorded in 1972. I cannot image Mick would have ever written “got to be alive and kicking” from ‘Pass The Wine’ back in 1972. That sounds like more like Sir Mick to me. However, the sheer value in the discovery and release of these tracks makes the new Exile a must have album.
According to hitsdailydouble.com, ‘Exile On Main Street’ sold around 75,000 units coming in second to Glee Cast ‘Glee: Music Vol.3’ on 138,000 units.
Other debuts this week, according to Hits are, Black Keys ‘Brothers’ at 3, Nas & Damien Marley ‘Distant Relatives’ at 5, Band of Horses ‘Infinite Arms’ at 7 and LCD Soundsystem ‘This Is Happening’ at 10.
