The Rolling Stones `Exile On Main Street` is neck and neck with the new Faithless album for a number one record in the UK next week.
The classic 1972 album was reissued with a 10-track bonus disc last week. While The Stones themselves were never happy with the album, the fans often cite it as their finest moment (personally, I prefer Let It Bleed).‘Exile On Main Street’ was 1000 sales ahead of Faithless ‘The Dance’ on the UK midweek charts. That was close enough for Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, to put in an early call to suggest ‘Exile’ will be the number one album in the UK next week.
The Stones last graced the top of the British chart with ‘Voodoo Lounge’ in 1994.
‘Exile On Main Street’ was recorded in France at a time when The Stones were broke and had to leave England because they could not afford their tax bill.
The bonus disc features some outtakes from the session as well as 5 tracks completed last year from unfinished instrumental demos from the sessions.
