Just like last time, Metallica have a promised a return to their roots for their next album.
Drummer and default spokesperson for the band Lars Ulrich spoke to The Rock Radio about their forthcoming ninth album. The band have been playing their iconic 1986 barnstormer 'Master Of Puppets' live in its entirety during recent shows and Ulrich claims that it has reignited their passion for going back to epic thrash.He said, "having to deliver Master of Puppets for three months this summer definitely revitalized some of that stuff in us" and asserted that "I think that the shows we played over the summer, we were definitely leaner and in better shape than we've been in a long time."
The band have left long time collaborator Bob Rock for uber-producer Rick Rubin, who has been ultra-busy of late reportedly working with U2, Linkin Park and knocking another Johnny Cash album. Ulrich said the band will record in January for a mid-year release, whittling down 25 songs they've already written.
Also, be thankful the controversial drum sound of 'St. Anger' will be dropped, as Ulrich said he's "taken the drums out of the cardboard boxes" for the next effort.
