Moody New York rockers Interpol finish album, lose charismatic bassist.
Upon announcing that they’ve polished off a fourth album of nervy, icy cold, new wave rock, Interpol also regretted to announce that their founding bassist has chosen to “follow another path”.Like Lars Ulrich before him, Carlos Dengler became the focal point of a band despite not being the frontman. His dapper fashion style and DJing and remixing efforts made him a cult figure in the hipster scene.
Universally known as Carlos D, he also scored film and television shows, wrote, produced and scored a short film called Golgotha and even acted in another short My Friends Told Me About You while playing for Interpol.
The split is wholly amicable, according to a message on the band’s website. The rest of the band wish the “blazingly talented individual” “great happiness and success”.
Dengler played bass on the newly completed album but the band promise “exciting new recruits” to fill out their touring party and will soon reveal “these illustrious players”.
Indubitably, dear sirs. Carlos will be missed.
