Is less than 20,000 US sales the best Courtney Love can do in her first week sales for the (its not really a) Hole album? Pathetic!
Courtney Love clearly believes her own hype. Nobody has been fooled that ‘Nobody’s Daughter’ is a Hole reunion album. Why did she even try and fool the fans?Hole was founded by Love and guitarist Eric Erlandson. The big one, ‘Live Through This’, features Erlandson and Love with Kristen Pfaff on bass and Patty Schemel on drums. Kurt Cobain was uncredited on backing vocals on ‘Asking For It’ and ‘Softer Softest’.
The next album, 1998’s ‘Celebrity Skin’ still featured co-founder Erlandson on guitar but replaced Pfaff with Melissa Auf der Maur on bass and Schemel with Samantha Maloney on drums.
Billy Corgan, who is mighty pissed off with this new album because songs he co-wrote were included without his knowledge, was uncredited on the bass on ‘Hit So Hard’.
Hole broke up in 2002 when Love and Erlandson released a joint statement announcing the end of the band. Courtney went solo, released a solo album (ie: that means a record with no-one else from the band) and continued her career.
‘Nobody’s Daughter’ was meant to be Courtney’s second solo album but it was rebranded at the last minute, giving it more commercial appeal.
What Courtney failed to understand is that all the hype Perez Hilton can give you at his SXSW party cannot fool the fans. ‘Nobody’s Daughter’ is not a Hole album, it is an unspectacular Courtney Love solo album with session guys.
It should be filed under B. for Bad Idea.
