Promoter Paul Dainty and producer Joel Pearlman have teamed up to bring Hairspray to the Australian stage.
Hairspray was written by John Waters as a 1988 movie starring Debbie Harry and Rickie Lake.In 2002 it was made into a stage show and debuted on Broadway.
The movie was remade in 2007 with John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and Zac Efron.
The Australian stage production, to be directed by David Atkins, will debut in Melbourne at the Princes Theatre in October.
