Gang Starr emcee Guru (Keith Elam) is in a coma in a New York hospital after suffering a heart attack.
The 43-year old hip-hop star had a cardiac arrest on Sunday, February 28.His label partner Solar has issued the following statement. "Guru is struggling with a serious health issue. We, the whole 7 Grand Records family, appreciate all your love and well wishes. We continue to hold out hope that Guru will make a full recovery from this. We ask that his privacy on this matter will be respected. Again, thank you for all your support through this trying time."
Elam came from the Boston suburb of Roxbury. He founded Gang Starr in 1985 with DJ Premier and DJ 1, 2 B-Down. Their track ‘Jazz Thing’ was featured in Spike Lee’s ‘Mo Better Blues’.
The posse official disbanded in 2005 but earlier this year Guru twittered that they were back together and had recorded a new album.
