Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has made his intentions known that he is interested in buying the Abbey Road Studios known.
Lloyd Webber, composer of ‘Cats’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and ‘Phantom of the Opera’, is reported to have made an offer for the iconic studios where The Beatles and Pink Floyd recorded their classic albums for EMI.The asking price for the studio is expected to be more than £30 million. It is understand that EMI knocked back a £30 million offer this week, so Lloyd Webber will have to spend more than that to get it but considering he is worth £750 million that should not be an issue.
Sir Paul McCartney surprised everyone by not showing any interest in purchasing the building. Instead, he is leading a protest to have it listed as national trust.
McCartney is definitely not interested. Although the Beatle legend lives in St John’s Wood, the savvy businessman knows a good deal when he sees one at a £30 million + studio is not considered a great deal.
Lloyd Webber recorded most of his musical soundtracks at Abbey Road. Everything from ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ though to his new musical ‘Love Never Dies’ were recorded at the studio in St John’s Wood.
