John Butler Trio release the first single 'Funky Tonight' from their forthcoming album.
It's quite amazing that John Butler Trio have managed to sell over 600,000 copies worldwide of their fourth album 'Sunrise Over Sea', which has been out for over two years now. This is mostly due to the group's relentless touring which saw them perform sold-out tours through the US, Europe, Japan and, obviously, Australia.'Funky Tonight' is the first taster from the album John Butler Trio have been working on all 2006. Songwriting and recording began in February with 'Sunrise Over Sea' engineer Robin Mai. Butler went into Sing Sing studios with bandmates Shannon Birchall and Michael Barker in June. He enlisted Mario Caldato Jr to co-produce. Caldato is best known for his work with Beck, Beastie Boys and Jack Johnson. The full album is slated for an early 2007.
Those wanting to sample his earthy roots music can see Butler and his trio play seemingly every summer festival, starting at Queensland's Woodford Folk Festival, then Falls, Southbound, the Big Days Out, Tamworth and April's East Coast Blues & Roots Festival in Byron.
