Sydney hard rockers Wolfmother and country legend Keith Urban and guitar god Tommy Emmanuel have each been nominated for a Grammy Award.
Wolfmother are up for the Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy for their song 'Woman', Urban is up for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his song 'Once In A Lifetime' and Emmanuel is up for 'Best Country Instrumental Performance' for 'Gameshow Rag/Cannonball Rag'.It is Wolfmother's first time at the Grammy's after a mammoth year for their debut self-titled album. The band are the only one in the category with a debut album. They're up against four bands who have all existed since last decade.
Their competitors are Buck Cherry - Crazy Bitch, Nine Inch Nails - Every Day Is Exactly The Same, System of a Down - Lonely Day and Tool - Vicarious.
Keith Urban is up against Dierks Bentley - Every Mile A Memory, Vince Gill - The Reason Why, George Strait - The Seashores Of Old Mexico and Josh Turner - Would You Go With Me.
Emmanuel's 'Gameshow Rag/Cannonball Rag' is at odds with Casey Driessen - 'Jerusalem Ridge', Brian Sutton and Doc Watson - 'Whiskey Before Breakfast', Chris Thile - 'The Eleventh Reel' and Jim Van Cleve - 'Nature of the Beast'.
Other big nominees this year include Mary J. Blige with 8 nominations and Red Hot Chili Peppers with 6. James Blunt is the luckiest debut artist this year, with The Dixie Chicks, John Mayer and Prince all taking out multiple nominations.
The awards will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 11, 2007.
