Australia's surprise packet of 2006, indie darlings Youth Group, set US release date for 'Casino Twilight Dogs'.
The indie rock act were feted in 2004 with the release of 'Skeleton Jar', on Ivy League Records in Australia. CEO for US punk giant Epitaph Records Brett Gurewitz fell in love with the album and released it on his label, despite it being tender, complex and light years away from the racket of most Epitaph albums. It was Youth Group's cover of Alphaville's 'Forever Young', commissioned by television show The O.C., that saw them become an Australian hit and internationally recognised. The eerie single topped the Australian singles charts for two weeks in March and was the first number one on the freshly minted digital charts, staying for five weeks.
Three months later the Sydney quartet hit number 10 when they released 'Casino Twilight Dogs' (produced by Wayne Connolly who worked with The Vines and You Am I). Epitaph offshoot label Anti, which features the likes of Tom Waits, Michael Franti and Merle Haggard, will release the album on January 30, 2007. Coincidentally, they release Australian roots rock artist Xavier Rudd's 'Food In The Belly' album on the same day.
