Massive Attack Like Their Songs In TV Shows

Tue, 26 Jan 2010 03:43:26 +1100

Massive Attack have no problems with their songs being used in TV shows. In fact, they say it is flattering.

The British musicians - made up of MC Robert Del Naja and Grant 'Daddy G’ Marshall - were shocked their tracks were being played in 'miserable' and 'disturbing documentaries' but don’t mind anymore as long as it makes the programme sound authentic.

Del Naja said: 'I know, you find it in all the darkest and most disturbing documentaries, anything that is pretty miserable, it keeps popping up - and it’s the opposite of how we started out, but if the idea is that this expresses authenticity, that this is the way things really are, then it is flattering.'

The musicians have grown in popularity in the US recently, as their track 'Teardrop’ is being used as the theme tune for the medical drama series 'House’.

While they don’t mind their songs being reused in some circumstances, Massive Attack get frustrated when these are replicated and used without their permission.

Del Naja explained to Sunday Times Culture magazine: 'It’s a blanket agreement that all bands have to adhere to.

'No, they can’t use it for advertising, but there’s always an army of producers out there who are quite willing to copy what you do and keep within the legal parameters.'

The band’s new album 'Heligolan’ is due for release on February 8.
