Lime Cordiale: Falling Up The Stairs

It may only be spring but it’s already feeling like summer. Everyone seems to love summer despite the heat and the humidity. I guess it’s the beach, the beers and the BBQs – but I love summer for an entirely different reason: I love summer because of the music that accompanies and embodies the beach, the beers and the BBQs.

There really is nothing like a band that makes you feel like the good times will never end and Sydney five piece Lime Cordiale do exactly that with their EP ‘Falling Up The Stairs’.

It’s difficult to tell you exactly what you’re getting when you listen to this EP. It is a whirlwind of Indie/Pop/Ska/Trance.

I know a lot of reviewers say “it’s unlike anything I have ever heard before” but however cliché it sounds, Lime Cordiale really have originality down and their tracks really are unlike anything I or you have ever heard before.

The tracks are musically both fun and funky. Lyrically the tracks are more meaningful then you would expect from such an upbeat tune. The lyrics are relatable, which makes ‘Falling Up The Stair’ even easier to listen to, ‘Bullshit Aside’ being the most substantially emotive on the EP. Each track has the frequent addition of brass instruments; clarinet, trumpet and trombone which makes them musically more vibrant. This EP really does embody a hypnotic, fun loving Aussie vibe!

The only negative thing I could point out is perhaps the unnecessary swearing, I feel like it’s almost a grab at attention. The lyrics on their own are enough to capture attention then with the addition of the funky tunes, how could they go wrong?

The song to listen out for is definitely ‘Bullshit Aside’ (of course that’s if you haven’t already heard it) – The lyrics are quite heavy and emotive however the instrumental arrangements are fun despite the lyrical themes. It’s a song that takes you on an impassioned journey – without taking you anywhere at all.
