The first thing I noticed heading outside Festival Hall in Melbourne for the Jason Derulo show was the audience. It was like they took one 16-year old girl, dressed her in a tight skirt, high heels, did her hair and then cloned her 3000 times over. If Jason Derulo has a target demographic then it is female 16-18.
When Derulo hit the stage, the other thing that was obvious was that this was a pop concert. This show wasn’t met with polite applause but with loud screams.
Jason Derulo is the man of the moment. He is introduction to Pop for many a young music fan. Some call him the “new Michael Jackson”. That's a tough call. It is obvious that Jackson is a major influence but let’s let time answer that. However, he did perform Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’.
The Jason Derulo show is a big show full of lights, camera and action.
The songs revolve around his debut album and the hits ‘Ridin’ Solo’, ‘Watcha Say,’ ‘In My Head’ and ‘What If’.
When he played the hits, the audience sang along to every word. He owned this crowd and they loved him.
A special mention should go to Trinity, Derulo’s opening act on the world tour. Melbourne based Trinity have been touring with Derulo across Europe, North America and now Australia. For them, it was the homecoming show. Trinity have been in the studio with Derulo working on their debut single. Expect it early 2011.
