Paul Weller’s return to Australia within two years after his first solo Aussie tour was greeted with the same excitement and expectation as last time.
Weller modernised the set this time around with a heavy dose of his last two albums but it his The Style Council hit ‘Shout To The Top’ followed by his Jam classic ‘That’s Entertainment’.
’22 Dreams’ (2008) and ‘Wake Up The Nation’ (2010) have given Weller a new energy in his music and that comes through in the live set. It was enough incentive for him to base the current setlist around those two recent albums. This was not the “oldies but goldies’ show. For the first Forum show, he even left out ‘A Town Called Malice’, the other hit for The Jam that regularly makes the show.
Tracks like ‘7 & 3 Is The Strikers Name’, ‘Andromeda’ and ‘Fast Car/Slow Traffic’ off ‘Wake Up The Nation’ and ’22 Dreams’ and ‘Empty Ring’ from the one before were delivered with the same ferocity as his early solo track ‘Changingman’.
