The first day of the trial of the murder of punk rock pioneer Linda Stein got underway in New York today.
Stein, the former wife of Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, was murdered in her Upper East Side apartment in October 2007.Her assistant Natavia Lowery was charged with the murder.
Linda Stein was the manger of The Ramones at the peak of their career. She was also married to Seymour Stein, who signed the Ramones to his Sire Records label and later signed Talking Heads, Madonna and The Pretenders.
Linda Stein left the music business in the early 90s and went into real estate. She sold apartments to the stars including her former husband’s former star Madonna, as well as Sting, Billy Joel and Elton. She had the connections.
On October 30, 2007 she was found dead in her Manhattan apartment. Her assistant Natavia Lowery was arrested and first appeared in court on December 13, 2007. His family disputed the charge, instead accusing Stein’s daughter Mandy of the murder.
Mandy Stein is now a documentary producer. Her recent ‘Burning Down The House: The Rise and Fall of CBGB’ premiered last year at the Tribeca Film Festival.
