Spider-Man and The Hulk are off to work with Mickey Mouse and Miley Cyrus. Stan Lee has sold Marvel Entertainment to Disney for $4.3 billion.
Marvel Entertainment investors will be paid $30 a share in cash for the sale when Marvel is removed from the New York Stock Exchange on January 11, 2010.The sale of Marvel to Disney gives Disney around 5,000 comic book characters including Iron Man, X-Men, the Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man.
The deal will also mean Disney will have to work with other studios as Marvel has granted long-term contracts for movie rights of certain characters such as Spider-Man for instance with Sony.
Disney will now receive royalties from those movies.
Disney has also taken a 10% stake in Stan Lee’s POW Entertainment for $2.5 million.
