Neil Young has been given the Order of Canada as part of Queen Elizabeth II`s New Year honors.
The Order of Canada is the second highest honour that can be awarded to a Canadian. Young had previously been granted the O.M. (Members of the Order of Canada) and can now add the O.C. (Order of Canada) to his name.Neil Young, O.C, O.M. received the new honour “for his contributions as one of Canada’s greatest musical talents whose unique voice and iconic songs have influenced generations of musicians, and for his support of educational and charitable organizations”.
Young was amongst 57 new appointments for the honor presented by the Queen’s representative in Canada Governor General Michaelle Jean.
The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to recognize the lifetime achievements of outstanding Canadians.
