Jay-Z's "comeback" album 'Kingdom Come' has scored his ninth number one in the US.
Astoundingly, this ties him with the Rolling Stones for third place in the running for most number one albums ever. Since Jay-Z probably has more chance of scoring more number ones in the future than the Rolling Stones do, he could threaten Elvis Prseley (who has ten) but is probably no chance to top The Beatles who have had an imposing 19 number one albums.According to Billboard, 'Kingdom Come' sold 680,000 copies in its first week, blitzing the number two position for 'American Idol' finalist Chris Daughtry's self-titled album, with a comparatively paltry 304,000 copies.
The album is the first since Jay-Z's retirement in 2003. It was almost guaranteed to be a hiatus rather than retirement though, as Hova has been continuously guesting on other's tracks and appearing with everyone from Linkin Park to Phish. 'Kingdom Come' was destined to be a hit, not only because Jay-Z is an imposing rap mogul but the list of producers - The Neptunes, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, Kanye West, Cool & Dre, The Runners, Dr. Dre - was fairly well faultless.
