Promoting their Best Of album, Oasis guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher mouths off at all and sundry.
We've all learnt to expect a controversial gaff or two when either Gallagher brother opens his mouth but during press for 'Stop The Clocks', their new Best Of album, Noel managed to slag off a diverse selection, including environmentalists, Robbie Williams, The Beatles new 'LOVE' album and Scissor Sisters. His impeccable logic about the war in Iraq was what upset most, though. He noted, "If you're bothered about getting shot - here's a thing - don't join the army" and called Blair's decision to go to war "an almighty cock-up".
Ray Bristow, of the National Gulf Veterans and Families Association, responded by calling him "ignorant". Private Lionel O'Connor, who is recovering in a military rehab centre after having a leg amputated following an attack in Basra, urged Gallagher to go to Iraq and experience it. Obviously O'Connor missed Gallagher's point, since if he was looking to get caught in hellish warfare he would've visited there already.
Next on Gallagher's agenda is a performance in a fan's living room, organised through BBC1. Here's hoping the lucky fan doesn't live in downtown Baghdad.
