What an interesting week on the Australian charts. Michael Buble has maintained the top spot for a second week beating out stiff competition (pardon the pun) from Michael Jackson, Wolfmother and Guy Sebastian.
The chart ended the week like a roll of the dice at a casino. It could have gone in many directions. As it is Melbourne Cup week, I should explain in horse racing terms. When these horses bolted on release date, Wolfmother was first out of the gate, followed by Guy Sebastian and Michael Jackson a nose behind. (Wow, that even confused me).
As the week progressed, Michael Jackson pulled the ultimate publicity stunt ... he released a movie documenting his last months on Earth. That's a tough one for the living to compete with.
It pushed back Wolfmother and Sebastian but not Michael Buble who jumped back in front with the crossover album he produced to take him from crooner to adult contemporary. (Note to self: Buble doing the Eagles does not work). (Note to everyone else: Buble doing the Eagles just sounds cheesy).
However, Michael Buble not getting the feel of ‘Heartache Tonight’ did not scare away his core followers (who probably don't even know the Eagles classic anyway).
In this horse race, Buble came in first place with ‘Crazy Love’, Michael Jackson and Wolfmother scored a place with ‘This Is It’ and ‘Cosmic Egg’ at no.2 and no. 3 respectively.
Guy Sebastian came in sixth place with ‘Like It Like That’. Sorry, you don’t get a dividend on that.
Also in the top 10, Matt Tilley ‘The Gotcha Calls’ at no. 8 and Rammstein ‘Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da’ at 9. (It seems porn videos do sell albums, just not enough albums). Of course, I am talking about Rammstein not Tilley. Austereo restricts its shock tactics exclusively to just one at a time, and he’s in Sydney).
Sales figures this week were:
Michael Buble ‘Crazy Love’ (12073)
Michael Jackson ‘This Is It’ (10798)
Wolfmother ‘Cosmic Egg’ (10386)
Guy Sebastian ‘Like It Like That’ (7011)
Matt Tilley ‘The Gotcha Calls’ (3483)
Rammstein ‘Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da’ (3462)
