US download company BlueBeat Inc is selling The Beatles as downloads but is it legal?
BlueBeat offers 25c downloads in MP3 format but The Beatles have never allowed their music for this purpose.A quick search in bluebeat.com shows the entire Beatles catalogue is being sold.
Apple Corp Ltd has stated that it doesn’t believe that the Santa Cruz, California company has permission to sell the tracks. The Beatles distribute through EMI but Paul McCartney has repeatedly stated that The Beatles catalogue is not available for download because they cannot agree with EMI.
A complete Beatles album through BlueBeat can be purchased right now for $4.25.
It will be interesting to see how long BlueBeat continues to sell The Beatles catalogue. Expect it removed ASAP. Meantime, help yourself to some downloads while they last for 25c a song or $4.25 an album.
