American Idol, Britain’s Got Talent and X-Factor judge Simon Cowell opened the X-Factor show last night with a special mention about Stephen Gately, who died yesterday in Majorca.
X-Factor judge Louis Walsh is also the manager of Boyzone and was unable to do the show last night because of the tragedy.Cowell said, “We got the news later last night and I want to say on behalf of us and the show this is really, really tragic news. I want to send out my condolences to the family. Our thoughts are with Louis which is why he is not here tonight. They were incredibly close. He did a lot for Stephen. Louis is not going to be here tonight, but as they say, the show must go on”.
Walsh has not gone to Majorca to join Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch, the other Boyzone members.
Instead, he is at home “very shocked and exceptionally upset,” according to his spokesperson.
