`Hey Hey It`s Saturday` has slaughtered its opposition despite the Harry Connick Jr `Michael Jackson Black Face` sketch last night.
More the 2.3 million viewers tuned into the second Hey Hey reunion show with channel 9 scoring around 43 percent of the national viewing audience for the program.Ten’s ‘Celebrity Masterchef’ paled into insignificance with less than half the audience. It generated around 1 million viewers. The high profile program finished the day in 10th place, a disappointing effort for Ten.
Daryl Somers reunited the original cast of ‘Hey Hey Its Saturday’ for two shows only with an expectation that the show will return in 2010. It went off the air in 1999.
Last night, Jackie McDonald, Ernie Carroll (Ozzy Ostich) and Animal came back for the second show alongside Russell Gilbert, Molly Meldrum, Wilbur Wilde and Red Symons.
The only negative in the entire two shows was the ill-thought out comedy sketch
‘Jackson Jive’ featuring a Black Face sendup of The Jacksons.
Celebrity guest Harry Connick Jr, a New Orleans resident, found the sketch highly offensive and said that if this happened in America it would be “Hey Hey there’s no more show”.
The controversy went world wide today with news networks all over the planet reporting on the incident and focusing on Australia as a racist country.
