We have had traditional opera, rock opera and now prepare yourself for the Twitter opera.
London’s Royal Opera House is inviting twitters to contribute to an opera created over Twitter. It is easy. The opera will be created line by line by Twitter users. You can contribute at http://twitter.com/youropera
Twitter users will work out the opera plot and then professional musicians will write the music for the work.
"We wanted to engage with audiences in the creation of an opera," Alison Duthri of the Royal Opera House said. "We felt it would be a good way to be interactive with the public and with audiences. We wanted to explore how to get people involved at a creative level”.
So far in the plot, the hero is kidnapped by a flock of birds and imprisoned in a tower.
While it is hardly Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy or Madame Butterfly standard, it sounds like a bit of fun.
Everyone involved knows it is not to be taken too seriously. As far as the opera house is concerned, if it gets people interested in opera then the exercise was worthwhile.
