Simon Cowell has given himself a $10m a year payrise to stay with American Idol for another three years.
Cowell has contracted his services to Idol for $45m a year. That is a tasty salary increase of over $10m a year. The new deal will keep Cowell at Idol for the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons of American Idol.
Cowell started hinting that he would leave Idol earlier this year. The tactic worked and Fox bit big time.
The deal does not include his other jobs. Cowell is also a judge on The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
The new Cowell deal is a further slap in the face to Paula Abdul who quit the show last week after a pay dispute. Victoria Beckham and Katie Perry will be stand-in judges until a permanent replacement is found.
Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson will return to Idol this year.
