Rocker turned international bleeding-heart ambassador Bono announced his support for David Hicks at U2's Brisbane show.
On November 7, during the Irish supergroup's first performance of their Australian tour at the Queensland Sports And Aquatic Centre in Brisbane, the outspoken, self-styled crusader for the downtrodden declared that Hicks should be brought back to Australia. David Hicks has been rotting in Cuba's Guantanamo Bay detention camp for five years, until recently without charge, as part of the US government's everlasting War On Terror.AAP reports that during 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' Bono declared, "We call for David Hicks to be brought back to Australia" and reiterated his intentions for an audience with Australian Prime Minister John Howard so that he can discuss Hicks' detention as well as his ongoing campaign to help Third World countries by requesting more aid from First World nations.
The Prime Minister is aware of Bono's request for a meeting and has admitted he'd be happy to meet with Bono, but for all his declarations the rock messiah is yet to officially approach his office for a powwow.
