The Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ‘Freedom of Speech' 06 tour has kicked off in Canada with Young performing almost all of his new album ‘Living With War' during the set.
While the ticket is credited as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the band is made up of Rick Rosas on bass and Chad Cromwell on drums, who both played on ‘Living With War'.Young stalwarts Ben Keith (Pedal Steel) and Spooner Oldham (keyboards) are also part of the band.
The show kicked off with ‘Flags of Freedom' from ‘Living With War' but was peppered through-out with C,S,N and solo songs.
With its anti-war, anti-Bush theme, the message of Graham Nash's ‘Military Madness' seemed as appropriate today as it did when it was recorded 35 years ago.
Songs from the setlist seem to have been selected for their lyrical content and relationship to the theme of Young's record.
The political 70's C,S,N&Y classis ‘Ohio' played like a bookend up against Young's new ‘Looking For A Leader'.
The biting ‘Let's Impeach The President' up against the Star Spangled Banner and following another C,S,N&Y classic ‘Find The Cost of Freedom' was equally potent.
