A Broadway musical set to the tunes of Bob Dylan has been forced to end its run less than a month after it opened.
Consistently poor reviews haven't helped 'The Times They Are A-Changin'', which will close on November 19, after just 28 performances. Twyla Tharp - the show's writer and choreographer - made the inexplicable artistic decision of setting Dylan's tunes in a circus setting. The closure has already been described by New York columnist Michael Musto as a "mercy killing".Virtually all mainstream reviews panned the show, with the Wall Street Journal's Terry Teachout writing, "Mr Dylan is one of the greatest songwriters of the postwar era and Ms Tharp one of its most admired choreographers, so how bad could it be? Now I know: 'The Times They Are A-Changin'' is so bad that it makes you forget how good the songs are."
