`She`s A Genius`, the taster to the forthcoming Jet album has fizzled again this week on the ARIA chart.
After just three weeks in the chart, ‘She’s A Genius’ has dropped from its peak position of no. 87 back to no. 97 and third week sales of just 818 downloads. The song was the first single for the high priority forthcoming album ‘Shaka Rock’.
The first Jet album ‘Get Born’ was released in 2003 after years of the band paying their dues in Melbourne pubs and clubs and perfecting their sound. It sold over 4 million.
The second album ‘Shine On’ came three years later but was mainly constructed indoors. Unlike the songs from ‘Get Born’, the band did not road-test the material for ‘Shine On’ and the album disappeared from the US chart after just 4 weeks.
The new songs from ‘Shaka Rock’ likewise are predominately studio creations with the first single ‘She’s A Genius’ sounding more like The Knack that The Beatles inspired first record. Maybe it was just a bad choice of single.
After ‘Get Born’, Jet became the great Aussie international hope for the 21st century.
‘Shaka Rock’ was produced by Chris ‘Frenchie’ French’ and recorded in Austin, Texas. It will be released on August 25, 2009.
