AC/DC`s 30-year old classic `Highway to Hell` won the APRA Award for the Most Played Australian Work Overseas last night in Melbourne.
‘Highway To Hell’ was the title track from the band’s sixth studio album.The song was released in July 1979 and was the last album by singer Bon Scott before his death in 1980.
‘Highway To Hell’ was a surprise winner for the award last night, considering the current international success with The Veronicas.
It was the second award in the category for AC/DC. They also won it in 1995 with ‘Big Gun’.
In 2004, Angus and Malcolm Young’s brother George and his songwriting partner Harry Vanda picked it up for ‘Love is In The Air’.
Last year, Wolfmother took home the award for ‘Woman’.
In 2005, 2006 and 2007, Jet won each year with ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’.
From 1998 to 2003 it went to Savage Garden for ‘I Knew I Loved You’ in 2003 and 2001, ‘Crash and Burn’ in 2002, ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ in 1999 and 2000 and ‘I Want You’ in 1998.
Silverchair won it for ‘Tomorrow’ in 1996.
