Beck and some of his more illustrious musician friends have come up with an ambitious plan to choose a record from their collection, and cover it in its entirety in a single day, releasing the results one track at a time.
The first album chosen in The Velvet Underground’s ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico,’ and the first track ‘Sunday Morning’ is already up at his official website. The sessions were completely unplanned, with no arrangements being considered before they arrived in the studio. The clip even features footage of the studio session, which included producer Nigel Godrich, drummer Joey Waronker, Thorunn Magnusdottir from Iceland (presumably tackling Nico’s parts), actor Giovanni Ribisi and bizarrely (although probably no stranger than Giovanni Ribisi’s involvement) Chris Holmes from W.A.S.P.
After watching the first clip, I can safely say to you that yes, it IS as good as it sounds!
