The Australian Football League has mounted a dirty deed against AC/DC by claiming they have the rights to put on events at Etihad Stadium on the same night of the AC/DC concerts.
Yesterday, the AFL wrote to the management of Etihad Stadium claiming that under their contract they should be notified before anyone else books the stadium.Their media pissing match against AC/DC infers that shows may have to be moved as they have first call on the venue.
It was later revealed that the AFL does not even have any matches set on those dates.
AC/DC tour dates were announced more than a month ago and the first two shows sold out on the day of sale. A third AC/DC show for Etihad Stadium is almost sold out and their may be a forth Melbourne concert announced soon.
180,000 tickets for AC/DC have been sold so far in Melbourne. An alternative venue is pretty much out of the question.
Moving a show to a different venue would also mean re-ticketing all 180,000 tickets sold so far as the ticketing agency is tied to the venue, not the tour.
The solution is pretty simple. The AFL can schedule their games on another night.
Watch this space. No doubt this little pissing match will die down fast.
